Abstract

Community-based ecotourism development is a strategic approach to achieving sustainable tourism destinations, particularly in traditional village settings. This study aims to analyze the forms and levels of local community participation in the development of ecotourism in Karang Dalem Tua Traditional Village, Bali. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, tourism managers, and local community members, as well as documentation studies. The results indicate that Karang Dalem Tua Traditional Village possesses strong ecotourism potential, including natural, cultural, and social resources. Community participation is evident in the planning, implementation, and management stages of ecotourism development, although the level of involvement varies among community groups. Supporting factors include traditional values, mutual cooperation, and awareness of tourism’s economic benefits, while inhibiting factors include limited human resource capacity and institutional support. This study emphasizes that strengthening local community participation is a key element in developing sustainable ecotourism based on traditional villages.
