Abstract

The Sanur Beach Area is one of the leading tourist destinations in Denpasar City and possesses significant potential for development as a Cycling Tour destination. Cycling tourism aligns with the principles of sustainable tourism by providing environmentally friendly travel experiences while simultaneously generating economic benefits for local communities. However, the development of cycling tourism in the Sanur Beach Area still faces several challenges, including the shared use of bicycle lanes by pedestrians, limited supporting facilities in certain locations, insufficient promotion of cycling tourism, and the absence of well-structured cycling tour packages. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. Informants were selected using purposive sampling, and the data were analyzed descriptively using the Tourism Destination Components (6A) framework and the concept of sustainable tourism. The findings reveal that the Sanur Beach Area has strong potential to be developed as a Cycling Tour destination based on six key aspects: attractions, accessibility, amenities, activities, available packages, and ancillary services. Cycling Tours contribute to sustainable tourism development by enhancing tourist experiences, empowering local communities, supporting the growth of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and promoting environmentally friendly modes of transportation. Furthermore, this study developed a sustainable tourism-based Cycling Tour package design tailored to the characteristics of the Sanur Beach Area. Despite these opportunities, several challenges remain, particularly the limited availability of supporting facilities, the misuse of bicycle lanes by pedestrians, and the lack of optimal development and marketing of cycling tour packages.
