Komodifikasi Ritual Perkawinan Adat Bali Sebagai Atraksi Wisata Di Jero Tegaljaya, Desa Batubulan, Kecamatan Sukawati, Kabupaten Gianyar

This study aims to analyze the commodification of Balinese traditional wedding rituals, or pawiwahan, as a cultural tourism attraction at the Royal Wedding in Jero Tegaljaya, Batubulan Village, Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency. The study examines the implementation of pawiwahan in Balinese society, its commodification as a tourism attraction, and the representation of Balinese culture within the Royal Wedding package. As part of the sacred Manusa Yadnya ceremony, pawiwahan has been transformed into a cultural tourism experience while maintaining its cultural identity.
This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The study applied Arnold van Gennep’s Rites of Passage Theory, du Gay and Hall’s cultural circuit theory, and Dean MacCannell’s Staged Authenticity Theory. Data were collected through observation, interviews, literature review, and documentation, and analyzed through data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing.
The findings show that pawiwahan holds religious, social, and cultural significance through the stages of separation, liminality, and reintegration. In tourism, the ritual has been commodified through production, consumption, representation, regulation, and cultural identity formation. The Royal Wedding package represents Balinese culture through traditional attire, offerings, gamelan, dance, spatial arrangements, and symbolic processions, functioning as both a tourism product and a medium for cultural preservation.
